How To Get That Soft, Airbrushed Look With Mineral Makeup

Here are a few tips that will make it easy to get flawless coverage with mineral makeup.

  1. Exfoliate. For starters, it helps to gently exfoliate your skin one to three times a week. This will smooth out your skin’s texture and make it easier to apply your makeup.
  2. Moisturize. Hydrated skin is happy skin!
  3. Use the right brushes. You’ll need a concealer brush, a round or flat-topped kabuki brush, and a finishing brush. The right brush really makes a difference.
  4. Sometimes less is more. Some mineral makeup brands are highly pigmented, so you might need less than you think. Try using a dime-sized amount at a time.
  5. Let the minerals “warm up” to your skin. The first time you apply mineral foundation, it might not look like a match right away. But give it a few minutes to adapt to your skin tone. It works with the natural oils in your skin, and after a short wait, transforms into a beautiful, smooth finish.
  6. Pat to conceal. To get the best coverage on problem areas, use a concealer brush to press (not rub) a very small amount of the foundation directly where you need it.
  7. Add serum for flawless under-eye coverage. For a creamier consistency, apply a small amount of your favorite anti-aging serum or moisturizer to your brush and then dip it into your foundation. Blend it on the back of your hand and apply. This works particularly well for dark circles.
