Earlier this summer, I took my wife and two sons to Rome. And I’ll be honest, we ate a lot…
We piled our plates high at every meal. Even though I usually eat a Primal diet, I enjoyed the pasta while I was there.
And the pizza was so good, I had seconds. And then thirds. In fact, I ate so much, I couldn’t move!
But I still lost 2 pounds.
In a minute, I’ll tell you how I managed to lose weight while in one of the top cities in the world for “foodies.”
At this time of year, a lot of my patients ask me how they can lose weight. They want to drop a few pounds before their summer vacation.
Even my staff isn’t immune to “quick weight-loss solutions”…
In fact, one of the women I work with wanted to know about the diet drug Belviq.
As you know, my advice is to try and avoid Big Pharma’s pills.
And that really holds true when it comes to diet drugs.
The FDA is always approving a new “miracle” weight-loss pill, only to recall it a few years later. To date, at least 34 diet drugs have been taken off the market.
Diet pills cause all kinds of problems — heart attack, stroke and psychiatric disorders.
And Belviq isn’t any different. Some of its side effects include suicidal thoughts, a racing heartbeat, hallucinations and more…
The European Union banned Belviq. The reason? It causes cancer in animals.
And here’s the real irony… Clinical trials found that patients who took Belviq only lost 3% of their body weight.1
To put that in perspective… Say you weigh 175 pounds and take this drug. The amount of weight you would lose is 5 pounds!
There’s definitely a better solution.
Lose fat like nature intended
To lose weight, I advise my patients to eat a protein-rich, low-carb Primal diet. And I tell them to do my PACE workout, which programs your body to stop storing fat.
Finally, I recommend that they take a safe, all-natural supplement called fucoxanthin.
It’s what I take when I know I’m tempted to overeat. Like on a vacation to Italy.
Fucoxanthin is a seaweed extract. Its fat-burning properties were accidentally discovered by Japanese marine biologists.
In 2006, these scientists fed the brown seaweed to their study animals. And something amazing happened. A microscopic fat-burning protein called UCP1 was suddenly switched on.
This protein “turns on” your metabolic switch and your kicks your body’s fat-burning machinery into high gear. It does this by prompting your white fat cells behave as brown fat cells.
Brown fat burns energy instead of storing it like white fat does.
In a 16-week clinical study, researchers followed 151 overweight women. Those that took the fucoxanthin supplements lost an average of more than 15 pounds. The women taking a placebo lost only 3 pounds.2
But here’s what’s really exciting. Not only does fucoxanthin help you burn fat you already have… it prevents the formation of future fat cells.3 In other words, it stops fat dead in its tracks.
Fucoxanthin is found naturally in a brown seaweed called wakame. This seaweed is used in many Japanese dishes and to wrap sushi. It’s also available in dried form. You can sprinkle it on your food blend it in a smoothie.
If eating seaweed doesn’t appeal to you, you can supplement. I recommend 300 mg every day.
