A “Rosy” Outlook for Rosacea Sufferers

Some people consider a “rosy” glow to be beautiful and healthy-looking, but when the rosiness is rosacea, it can be an embarrassing problem that many people try to hide.

Rosacea is a hereditary condition caused by inflamed sebaceous glands and blood vessels. It is not contagious. Sometimes called “adult acne” because it can cause outbreaks that look like acne, rosacea is believed to affect 14 million Americans. It can also cause burning and soreness in the eyes and eyelids, and if left untreated it can get worse. Rosacea typically appears between the ages of 30 and 50 and affects more women than men.

New York City based physician Neil Sadick, MD recommends avoiding spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine and extreme hot or cold temperatures. In addition, Dr. Sadick suggests avoiding skincare and makeup products containing retinoids and AHAs, which can cause irritation.

Dr. Sadick is a world-renowned dermatologist who holds five board certifications in internal medicine, dermatology, cosmetic surgery, hair restoration surgery and phlebology. He is the medical director and owner of Sadick Aesthetic Surgery and Dermatology with locations on Park Avenue in New York City and Great Neck, Long Island. He is also the director of the Sadick Research Group, which runs multiple FDA clinical trials each year.

“The optimal treatment for rosacea is a product containing phytosphingosine, like Park Avenue Prescription’s PM Rejuvenation formula that reduces redness,” says Dr. Sadick.

Coffeeberry, metronidazole and alpha longoza are also ingredients that help treat the condition. In-office treatments such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser and Laser Genesis laser by Cutera are also effective treatments for rosacea.

So, if you’re constantly trying to cover up a “rosy glow” that’s really rosacea, you can have a “rosy” outlook knowing there are treatments available to you at your doctor’s office and at home.
