By the time you turn 50, you could have almost five pounds of toxins trapped inside your body.
Coursing through your cells, tissue and organs…
You see, we weren’t designed to live in a modern world of manmade chemicals, toxins and pollutants.
For millions of years, we had clean air and pure water. But in the past hundred years, our environment has changed faster than we can evolve with it.
In fact, the World Health Organization says that almost 25% of diseases today are the result of environmental exposure.1
That’s why purging your body of pollutants is more important today than ever. Environmental toxins have become a major health threat. These toxins have linked with many of today’s chronic diseases, including:
• Cancer |
• Asthma |
• Diabetes |
• Chronic fatigue syndrome |
• Alzheimer’s |
• ADHD |
• Liver disease |
• Thyroid disease |
• Parkinson’s |
• Kidney disease |
And one of the most dangerous toxins you’re exposed to every day is mercury. This one toxin alone is responsible for memory loss, depression, headaches, tremors, numbness, hearing loss, dizziness, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and multiple sclerosis.2,3
Mercury exposure can also damage your cardiovascular system, causing high blood pressure in humans’ heart attacks.
It’s almost impossible to avoid mercury contamination today. Every year, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 475 metric tons of mercury escape into the atmosphere just from coal power plants alone.
And these emissions know no boundaries. The vapors can travel thousands of miles before falling back to earth in the air we breathe.
Mercury combines with other elements, such as chlorine, sulfur or oxygen, to form “inorganic mercury” or mercury salts. They are sometimes used in synthetic skin lightening creams and as antiseptic creams and ointments.
Mercury also combines with carbon to make “organic mercury” compounds. The most common is methylmercury. This is produced by organisms in the water and soil, and is the kind of mercury you get when you eat fish.
We also get mercury in our bodies from drinking water, certain vaccines, fluorescent light bulbs, red dye and contact lens fluid.
Drop 5 Pounds with Mercury Detox
Mercury can build up inside you unless you help your body get rid of it. Here are different ways you can protect yourself against buildup of mercury and other toxins:
1. Use nature’s best detox agents. There are three all-natural detoxifiers I recommend to my patients at the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine:
- Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum): This is one of the best herbs I’ve found for clearing toxins from your blood. It helps detoxify the liver and restore healthy liver function.
Look for dried milk thistle extract. But make sure it has at least 80% silymarin, the active ingredient for liver cleansing. I recommend taking one 200 mg capsule twice daily.
- Activated Charcoal: Hospitals have been using this form of charcoal for many years. It’s an antidote for drugs, poisons and overdoses. Activated charcoal works by grabbing toxins in its millions of tiny pores and escorting them out of your body in a process called adsorption.
Look for activated charcoal as a very fine, black powder. Take 20 grams to 30 grams of powdered activated charcoal mixed with water once a day for a week or two. Be sure to also drink 10 to 15 glasses of plain water each day.
- Modified Citrus Pectin: This is made from the inner peel of citrus fruit. It’s one of the most powerful detoxifying substances I’ve ever found. USDA researchers gave modified citrus pectin to people for six days and measured the amount of toxins excreted in their urine before taking it and 24 hours after. They found it increased the amount of mercury excreted in urine by 150%.4
2. Try intravenous (IV) chelation. I offer safe IV chelation to just about every patient I see here at the Sears Institute. For IV chelation, I inject calcium disodium EDTA directly into your bloodstream. It’s painless. And in no time, EDTA grabs toxins and pulls them out. In a 90-minute session, you’re done and on your way. Patients tell me they feel better almost immediately.
You can also do oral chelation at home with an agent called DMSA. It comes in pill form.
First, you’ll be tested to see what heavy metals are in your system. Then you’ll be given a prescription for DMSA. Your exact dosage will be based on your weight, and will usually be administered over the course of several months.
Call the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine at 561-784-7852 to schedule IV chelation or to arrange to do oral chelation at home. *Oral chelation patients must come in for an office visit before any prescription can be written.
