Dear Beauty Reader,
Experts in the beauty business have discovered a new, secret little tip for cleaning makeup brushes, beauty tools and even for whitening finger nails. Generic store brand effervescent denture cleanser tablets are a quick, easy and inexpensive no-scrub/low-scrub way to remove build up and gunk from many beauty products.
The American Dental Association website says soaking dentures in the cleaning solution helps kill germs on dentures, which people put it their mouths. If they’re gentle enough to put in your mouth and kill germs, it makes sense that fizzy denture tablets would be gentle enough for your beauty tools and brushes.
Clean these items with fizzy denture tabs:
- Mani/pedi clippers, files and tools
- Eyebrow/eyelash brush/comb
- Plastic shaver handles that hang in the shower
- Simple directions for cleaning the tools
Add item(s) to be cleaned to a cup or more of hot/warm water (adjust amount accordingly for volume of water and gunk factor) and toss in one to four tablets with the items to be cleaned. Watch the fizz! Let everything soak for one to two hours or even overnight. Swirl the item(s) and rinse well.
Simple directions for makeup brushes
For makeup brushes, simply swish, don’t soak. In just enough hot/warm water to cover the brush bristles (not the handle), add one denture cleanser tablet and start gently swishing brushes in the water. Continue for a few minutes after the fizzing has stopped. Rinse well, shake off moisture, pat dry and gently remove as much water as possible with paper towels, then allow brushes to air dry.
Fizzy denture tablets even whiten nails
For nails stained from nail polish, remove all polish, wash and dry hands. Drop about four effervescent denture tablets into a shallow bowl in very warm water that’s just deep enough to cover all ten fingers. Soak fingers for about 10 minutes. This may require a few more applications depending on the stain level of the nails. The whitening denture tablets could also help prevent future staining when you soak before each time nail polish is applied.
Good news for budget-conscious beautynistas
Generic store brands work just as well as the more costly name brands and a box of 90 costs only pennies per tablet.
