Clever accessorizing is a great way to freshen up your wardrobe and make you look younger. One of the wardrobe tricks I use is to skip the fads and add on subtle accessories that can make any outfit look fresh and more youthful. There’s a big difference between dressing too young for your age and dressing in a more youthful fashion. The first step is to choose clothing that elongates the body and makes you look slimmer. That doesn’t necessarily mean wearing “all black.” Since we’ve been told for eons that black is slimming, it’s tempting to wear it all the time. Wearing black next to the face can actually have the opposite effect and make you look older, so be careful when selecting black tops. Black pants and skirts are wardrobe staples, though, and can be the starting points for your new younger look when paired with a colorful top or light sweater. The key is to start simple with solid colors and then add in the accessories. Notice what the young women are wearing: colorful scarves, bright, high-heeled shoes, chunky jewelry, colorful handbags. These are the items that can make all the difference in dressing “old” or dressing “young.”
So, next time you’re out shopping for new clothes, skip the big, bold patterns and opt for solids that you can mix and match. Then, go straight to the accessories section and find a cute, colorful scarf, a nice bracelet and earrings (not too heavy), colorful shoes (flats or heels) and handbag.
Do not match the shoes to the purse to the jewelry to the clothes. With today’s young people, anything goes and when it’s too “matchy-matchy,” it just screams “older.”
Have a Youthful Day,
